I have sold my property in Dubai.

I was told my the estate agents that they will pay me my money by “cash cheque” with my name on it. This means i can go to any bank in Dubai and that cheque will guarantee that the bank will then pay me the cash equivalent in Dirhams.

As im a UK resident i dont have any bank accounts in Dubai.

Is a “cash cheque” a widely accepted form of payment? Please help as i need to know where i stand.

I am new to UK and has rented a flat in manchester through estate agent in eccles. It has been 5 mths, things were fine, 3 weeks ago i had few problems like heating not working, fire alarm broke, cooker broke, I called up my agents who promised to get it fixed ASAP. Now I have talked to the manager as well still they r saying it will be fixed soon and maintainenece dept has been informed but still I am eating outside from last 3 weeks and had suffered twice vomiiting and diarrhoea as I can’t tolerate outside food for long time. Also I am spending lot of money on outside food. I don’t know what my rights are here. I am in 6mths contract and i’s cheapest deal in city centre and I don’t want to leave it as well as I am not full time work now a days. Manager has told me yesterday that she has informed the maintenence dept 3 time and has faxed all information and i have to wait for there call and she can’t do more than this. I was shocked to hear. Any help or advice? Thanku for adive
thank u for reply. Now problem is i was talking to manager, and now she is not picking up the phone and her voice mailbox is full. Also she has changed the address and I couldn’t get her new address from anywhere. Also when I asked the owner’s number in the starting of contract, she said that I need to do all discussion with her but not with owner. Am I alright not tp pay any rent untill she get this fixed or if I do so than can she sent the debt agencies for me? I tried to contact the maintainence person who does the worl for her and apparently she has not paid her £7000 and he is not ready to do any further work for her. Any suggestions how should find her business address?

I have an offer accepted on a flat (UK). I have my mortgage offer, but my solicitor has not received any documents frm the vendor’s solicitor. The vendor’s solicitor and the estate agent are saying that they haven’t received the title deeds from Northern Rock yet. It has been 5 weeks now. How long should this take - as i am getting worried that the sale won’t go through. The vendor is a propoerty developer, but the flat is empty and the tenants have moved out. any advice or similar experiences?

Is the buying process the same? E.g. Using an estate agent / property website to view properties?
Is the mortgage application process teh same? Do they have the same products - fixed, tracker, variable? Having a deposit? 5, 10, 15% deposit?
Do they pay stamp duty or equivalent? Also do they pay council tax or equivalent?
How does conveyancing work? Is the contract exchange and completion process the same?
Do you have to pay the estate agent or equivalent?
Will I need to have a credit histort first before I buy a place? Can I buy the place whilst in the UK?

Hi. My wife and I are moving to LA (from the UK) in January ‘09 and will be living there as students for a year. We’re looking to rent a 1-2 bed apartment in Sherman Oaks / Van Nuys / Encino and need some advice.

In the UK, there are estate agents who deal specifically with rentals, have comprehensive listings on their websites and do not charge a fee for their service, e.g. http://www.foxtons.co.uk/properties/uk-london-houses-for-rent-290/flats-for-rent-in-london.html
All of the ones I find online for LA require you to sign up and show very little information. The vast majority seem to be unfurnished too.

I’m just looking for some help as to how the system works and any recommendations of good rental companies/websites/etc.

Thanks!
